My dissertation examines Canadian universities during the First and Second World Wars with a particular focus on the discourse around two main issues: contributions and commemoration.

As part of my larger work, I have initiated and organized two world war commemorative plaque projects. At the University of Western Ontario my work to compile the university's First World War honour roll culminated in the unveiling of a plaque in 2008. I led a similar project at the University of Ottawa in 2009 where I organized a team of undergraduate students to research the biographies of members of the university who fell in the Second World War. This project also culminated in the erection of a memorial plaque. I am currently working on an accompanying memorial volume.
