About
As of 1 September 2011 I will be based at the University of Ottawa, Department of Epidemiology & Community Medicine.
My research can be broadly classed as public health ethics although I have a special interest in the ethical, legal and social issues around genetics (and genomics) and reproductive technologies.
I am an advocate of mixed methods approaches and interdisciplinary research and bring with me experience and training in both qualitative and advanced quantitative methods.
In particular I am interested in public or patient experiences, how technologies can be evaluated and how people make decisions regarding their moral acceptability.
Methodologically I have a keen interest in latent variable methods such as structural equation modelling, latent class analysis, item response theory, and multilevel modelling.
Whilst I currently work on the ethical and policy issues raised by childhood obesity my doctoral thesis considered parental decision-making around newborn bloodspot screening (the heel prick) and I have previously conducted research on outcome measures for clinical genetics services during my time at the North West Genetics Knowledge Park (Nowgen).
